Education, understood as accompanying an individual
toward his own human fulfillment, and development,
understood as reciprocal help in making the most of
resources, in order to set out on a dignified life.
This
non-governmental organization focuses on projects
dedicated primarily to small children and young people
in countries of Africa, America, Eastern Europe, and the
Middle East. EDUS promotes distance adoptions, has
participated in public events and exhibitions, and has
been involved in conferences and seminars on topics such
as solidarity, peace and international cooperation.
EDUS
belongs to AVSI International, a network of associations
and non-governmental organizations of European, African,
and Latin American countries, which has been operating
for 30 years in the areas of cooperation and support for
developing countries.

The Association of Volunteers in International Service
AVSI
– The Association of Volunteers in International Service
is an international not-for-profit, non-governmental
organization (NGO) founded in Italy in 1972. AVSI promotes
cultural, social and economic development, according to
Catholic social teaching, especially among the most
disadvantaged in developing nations and countries in
transition.
AVSI
carries out it mission through the planning and
implementation of medium and long-term sustainable
projects and emergency relief operations in partnership
with local associations, institutions, international
agencies and governments.
At present, AVSI is directly involved in 28 countries of
Africa, Latin America, Eastern Europe and the Middle East
with more than 77 long-term projects benefiting at least
90,000 people in various sectors. Some 120 AVSI qualified
personnel are directly involved in long-term field
assignments with hundreds of locally hired people and are
supported by dozens of academics and senior practitioners.
Financial support is secured through numerous grants and
donations of businesses, associations and private
individuals who thereby practice and invest in global
solidarity. These funds complement those of international
and national development corps, UN agencies and the
European Union.
AVSI acts also as a global network, linking 21 associated
NGO’s, most of which are based in non-western countries
and is also affiliated with CdO, an Italian based,
not-for-profit association of over 15,000 associations and
businesses.
VSI is registered as a PVO with USAID and holds the
General Consultative status with the UN Economic and
Social Council (ECOSOC) in New York, the UN Industrial
Development Organization (UNIDO) in Vienna and is
associated with the UN Department of Public Information
(DPI) in New York. AVSI is also recognized as an NGO for
international cooperation by the Italian Government and
the European Union.
